Julian Walder Austria, 17, Senior

Julian Walder began playing the violin at the age of five, and currently studies with Professor Y. Kless at the University of Arts Graz, as well as privately with K. Krueger. He has performed in concerts across Europe in Russia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Germany as well as his native Austria, and has won numerous prizes. These include the First Prize and the Grand Prix at the Grumiaux Competition in Belgium, the 1st Prize at Prima la Musica and winning Musica Juventutis, with a recital at Vienna Konzerthaus.

“Menuhin himself was not only a great musician but also a warm-hearted person who inspires me a lot. I have already given a 40 minutes presentation at my school about his life’s work. The Menuhin Competition represents these same ideals by building up a great community and supporting young musicians. This means a lot to me.”
