The Menuhin Competition Geneva 2018 opens with show-stopping performances by juror Henning Kraggerud and 14-year-old Yesong Sophie Lee, winner of the London 2016 Junior 1st Prize, with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under the direction of Marin Alsop. The programme ranges from Saint-Saëns’ virtuosic Havanaise to Mendelssohn’s last large-scale work, his innovative Violin Concerto, one of the most popular concertos of the repertoire. It ends with one of the greatest of all orchestral works, Dvořák’s triumphant New World Symphony!
